Shelter pets in Bryson City are set to have a happy holiday thanks to a local organization and donors.

PAWS of Bryson City began in 1990 by a group of Swain County citizens who were concerned with the number of homeless and abandoned animals in the community.

This Christmas, PAWS Animal Shelter will be giving cheer to homeless animals, as they do every holiday, by making the day special for shelter pets.

“We always do something special for the animals every holiday. They get a festive Christmas dinner, special treats and all have a Christmas stocking as well as gifts picked out specifically for each individual dog and cat,” said Beth Cline-Stroud Executive Director of PAWS.

Thanks to generous donations, PAWS has collected toys, treats, blankets, and food for pets this year and has toys picked out with each pet's likes in mind.

On PAWS’ Facebook page, Armani, a German Shepherd at PAWS, shared his Santa list, where he asked for his favorite plush squeaky toys and treats.

Cline-Stroud said there have been many kind donations of dog and cat supplies and some are still coming in.

“We had a delivery this morning that we’ve not opened yet,” Cline-Stroud. “Our biggest need right now is monetary donations, as this has been a hard year on us financially.”

Recently PAWS walked in the Bryson City Christmas Parade with adoptable pups to raise awareness for their available dogs. Don’t forget about those adorable purry, furry critters as well, as PAWs has many cats and kittens available for adoption as well.

These dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies for adoption would love to find their forever home just in time for Christmas. PAWS’ website says if you can’t adopt, please consider fostering, donating, or volunteering; things they are always in need of.
