The Swain County Sheriff’s Office continued in the footsteps of last year’s Christmas celebration where they reunited inmates with their families for the holidays. Thanks to generous donations from the community, inmates were able to pick their child or grandchild out a toy of choice and give it to them during a visit at the sheriff’s office.

Once again this year, Sheriff’s Office Administrative Assistant Janet Cochran decorated the conference room festive and had snacks and treats ready for families to spend quality time together before the holidays, that otherwise wouldn’t get the chance while their family members are incarcerated.

Sheriff Curtis Cochran said his goal of the program is to show inmates that they should be with family and loved ones during the holidays and not behind bars, in hopes to inspire them to turn their lives around.

This year, there were 18 families who participated, according to Captain Brian Kirkland. The Swain County Sheriff’s Office thanks the community for their support and hopes to continue reuniting families each year.
