Driving on Highway 19 near Ingles and the bus garage, one might notice a row of tiny houses that have mysteriously appeared on the side of the road.

It turns out they’re part of a new company called River’s Rest, formed by local construction company Smoky Mountain Cabinbuilders along with some new partners.

One partner, Charles Gonzalez, said the goal was a little community of rental cabins that would be in walking distance of downtown.

“The goal is a nice little rental facility by the river. We’ll have a pavilion with a fireplace where people can sit in the evenings,” he said.

He added that some of the homes would be for sale as well.

River’s Rest will be operational, hopefully, by December this year. Gonzalez said they’re working on getting water and sewer set up with the Town of Bryson City. They’ll also put up fencing and walls around the lot so as to separate the area from the bus garage and retail nearby.
