Two attempted murder charges filed

On Tuesday, May 2, Swain County Sheriff’s Office deputies charged and arrested a man on two attempted murder charges.

Jeffrey Tyler Huskey, 31, of 3389 Hwy 19 West, Whittier, was charged with two counts felony attempted murder, two counts misdemeanor child abuse, and one count: breaking & entering, misdemeanor assault on a female, injury to real property, larceny and communicating threats.

The attempted first-degree murder charges are for offenses against two people. In the first charge, Huskey allegedly assaulted a woman with hedge trimmers in an attempt to kill her, according to the magistrate’s order on file with the Swain County Clerk of Courts Office. Heallegedly said “I’m going to ***ing kill you!” in the attack.

In the second attempted murder charge, Huskey allegedly assaulted a man with a Ford Escape SUV with the intent to kill.

Huskey allegedly broke into the woman’s home in West Swain destroying the front door, where two children under 16 years old were also present.

Huskey also allegedly stole sweet tea at Smokey Mountain Bait and Tackle that same day.

Huskey is currently being held in the Swain County Detention Center on a $220,000 secured bond.

A court appearance in Swain County District Court is scheduled for May 16 at 9:30 a.m.
