Brevard, NC - Gladys “Louise” Wiggins Maney, 86, our beloved mother, nana, aunt, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2022, after a prolonged illness. Lou was born in Swain County on October 30, 1936, and lived most of her life in Brevard, NC. She enjoyed a long career in International Customer Service at Ecusta in Pisgah Forest, retiring after 37 years. A devoted Christian, Lou was an active and loving member of Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church for nearly 60 years.
Lou was preceded in death by the love of her life of 64 years, James Russell Maney, her parents, Harvey Monroe Wiggins and Minnie Savilla Whiteside, and 11 brothers and sisters, Luther, Ethel, Lester, Etta, Barron, Wade, Myrtle, Mildred, Joyce, Janice and Doris.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Wanda Houck (Michael) of Dubois, WY and two granddaughters, Katie Benson (Landon) of Honolulu, HI and Rebecca Houck of Brevard, NC along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her family and friends were her most precious possession and it brought her much joy staying close to them.
Lou truly loved everyone, and her kindness and compassion will be sorely missed. She always had time to counsel and love whoever came to her. Her solution to life’s challenges was prayer and love. Louise’s faith was strong, and she was an inspiration to many.
Services were held at 1pm, Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Tony Lambert and Rev. John North officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial followed the service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC.
