Katharyn Martin Howell Monteith, 97, of Bryson City, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Carolina Caring in Newton. Born February 26, 1925 in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Allen Merritt Howell and Herman Martin Howell. Katharyn loved the Blue Ridge Mountains and was an avid gardener and sewer. She especially loved all her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Monteith; grandson, David “DJ” Montieth Jr.; two brothers, Richard and Bill Howell of Murphy.
She is survived by:
Daughter: Mary Greene of Taylorsville
Son: David Montieth (Mary) of Pennsylvania
Grandchildren: Rachel Greene of Claremont, Sarah G. Shelton (Benjamin) of Charlotte, Morgan Montieth of Pennsylvania
Great-Grandchildren: Jackson Lamb, Jacob Lamb, Andrew Lamb, Benjamin Shelton, Harrison Shelton, Elizabeth Shelton, and Riley Montieth.
A Graveside service was held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Conover City Cemetery in Conover, NC with Rev. Zach Deal officiated.
