Roy Griggs, 88, of the Lauada Community went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 30, 2022. A native of Georgia and longtime resident of Bryson City he was the son of the late Joe and Madaline Elliott Griggs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Ellar Griggs; one brother, C.D. Griggs, and a grandson, Lou Raines.

Roy was a Deacon at Sawmill Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He worked at Maness Manufacturing Company, then at Magnavox, and Carolina Wood Turning until they closed the businesses. After his time there he worked with Dillard Barnes building houses. Roy was a farmer who could handle a tractor as well as anyone could handle a horse. He always loved helping out his neighbors with plowing or cutting hay.  Roy loved watching his grandkids play ball. He loved baseball especially the Atlanta Braves.   Roy played baseball in the 7th grade.

Roy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rachel Griggs; two sons, Ronnie Griggs and wife Donna of Bryson City, and Ricky Griggs and wife Ruthie of Bryson City; 7 grandchildren, Brett Raines, Renee Griggs, Rebekah Griggs, Stacey Griggs, Ronnie Griggs, Randell Griggs, and Nolan Griggs; one brother Junior Griggs, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at Sawmill Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be at Sawmill Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Roy’s grandsons, John Cooper, Chris Cooper, Mitchell Cooper, and David King.
