And they’re off! Lady Devils cross country take off at the Cherokee meet last week where they took first place.

The Swain County High School Cross Country team competed last Wednesday at Cherokee High School where they got the 23-point win.
The Lady Devils came in first with 27 points, followed by Franklin with 50, Hayesville with 88, Smoky Mountain with 110, Cherokee with 140, Murphy with 161, and Tri-County Early College with 166. The Lady Devils team average time for the 5000 was 22:35.

2nd place- Amaya Hicks with 20:42.5, 3rd- Annie Lewis with 21:32.8, 5th- Gracie Monteith with 22:33.8, 10th- Lauryn Linton with 23:48.8, 12th- Angelina Lomelli with 24:12.5, 15th- Marden Harvey with 24:27.2, 17th- Lilah Foster with 24:41.8, 18th- Sienna Hackshaw with 24:53.5, 22nd- Marlee Hicks with 25:33.7, 30th- Katie Simonds with 27:17.8, 40th- Audrey Monteith with 29:04.6, 41st- Josephine Parsons with 29:31, and 62nd- Lindley Wyatt with 34:27.2.
Maroon Devils
The Maroon Devils cross country team came in 2nd for the meet with 54 points, only one point away from first place Cherokee with 53. Franklin was in 3rd with 73, followed by Smoky Mountain in 4th with 88 and Hiwassee Dam in 5th with 142. Swain had a team average time for the 5000 of 18:53.

2nd- Connor Brown with 17:18.8, 10th- Kane Jones with 18:50.9, 12th- Connor Lambert with 19:02.8, 13th- Abhi Patel with 19:13.5, 23rd- Corey Wolf with 19:54.3, 53rd- Jackson Pittard with 22:50.2, and 54th- Nathan Brown with 22:52.9.
On Tuesday, cross country competed in Cullowhee at the 2022 SMHS Watermelon Run and will host a home meet this Saturday at Kituwah Mound beginning with Middle School at 8 a.m. and Varsity at 9 a.m. beginning with high school boys then girls.
