Lady Devils fall to Yellow Jackets

Last Thursday the Swain High School volleyball team had a game at home against the Hayesville Yellow Jackets.

The game turned into a nailbiter as Hayesville took the 25-17 win in the first set followed by a close fought second set, ending with Hayesville up 26 to 24.

The Lady Devils didn’t go out without a fight as they volleyed back and forth in the third, winning the set four points ahead with 25 to 21. Swain fought hard but just couldn’t get the win in the final set, where the Yellowjackets finished 25 to 13, winning the game 3-1.

Throughout the game, Swain showed good sportsmanship and teamwork and players continue to improve each game.

The Lady Devils are currently ranked 24th in the NC 1A West Division and have a 4-3 record.

The team played at home against Murphy on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and results will be available in next week’s paper. Their next game will be Thursday at Cherokee.

 

 

JV Volleyball

Swain’s JV volleyball team also took on the Hayesville Yellow Jackets last week before the varsity match but ultimately fell to the Jackets.

The game proved to be another nail biter that kept fans on the edge of their seat, as Swain won the first seat 26 to 24, followed by Hayesville pulling out a 25-23 lead, tying the match 1-1 until the final set, where they Yellow Jackets won with two points, 15-13, ending the match up 2-1.

The JV team will play at Cherokee on Thursday vs. the Lady Braves.
