Swain County Interim Manager Lottie Barker and the Board of Commissioners are nearing in on a budget for fiscal year 2024-2025. In a budget meeting held last Tuesday, May 7, the commissioners heard from county department heads as they presented their priorities for the next year. One of the biggest takeaways was a desire to see wages increase.
Building and Grounds Supervisor Cabot Cochran described the need at his department.
The theatre was full at Swain Arts Center recently when Swain High School put on its production of “Grease School Version.” The entertainment is scheduled to continue this spring.
Last week, the National Park Service announced that 400 national parks reported a total of 325.5 million visits in 2023, an increase of 13 million or 4% over 2022.
The Swain County High School track and field program competed in the 1A West Track and Field Regionals held at Montreat College this past Saturday.
