Skeet Cook, a freshman at Swain County High, got to play golf in the 1A regional tournament at Lincoln Country Club – the only Swain player to do so this year.

He finished 44th with a score of 107.

According to Coach Josh Crisp, Cook’s journey on the course was tumultuous – on the back nine, he began to see some difficult course conditions. The back nine is long and requires precise wedge shots.

But the front nine has tight fairways and fast greens, which Crisp said could be responsible for the higher-than-normal scores lots of players had.

Crisp added that there was only one player from the Smoky Mountain Conference moved forward to the state championship.

And he said he and Cook had a good overall experience at the regional tournament.

“As Skeet and I drove home, we discussed the future for him and our young team,” Crisp said. “We have a lot of potential in making a push for our team to make it to regionals and beyond. If each individual golfer makes it a priority to practice with a purpose, we will have a bright future.”
