New Attitudes Day Spa started the new year with two new stylists, welcoming best friends Aliyah Stewart and Grace Cabe on Dec. 22.
Stewart and Cabe, who graduated this past fall with associate degrees in applied science in cosmetology from Southwestern Community College, bring new energy to the salon.
“They’re ambitious, talented and very professional,” said Nancy Jones, owner of New Attitudes, which she describes as “comforting with a little ‘Steel Magnolias.’”
Stewart, inspired by her grandmother who has been a hairstylist for approximately 50 years, specializes in coloring, highlighting and perms.
“I love doing perms,” she said. “A lot of boys are coming in for them.”
Stewart hopes to perfect hair extensions and braids.
Cabe said she enjoys giving blowouts, coloring, highlighting and men’s cuts.
“I like making people feel beautiful,” said Cabe. “I like to transform people, so they leave feeling relaxed and refreshed.”
Cabe hopes to refine hair and lash extensions and learn to twist dreadlocks.
Both stylists are scheduled to take their state board exams in January and February. In the meantime, they said they enjoy learning from Jones.
“She’s a great mentor and teacher,” Cabe said. “It’s a welcoming, homey atmosphere.”
New Attitudes offers more than hair services. Tina Tran is its nail technician and Swa Sapp, RN, provides esthetic services. The salon has a tanning bed.
Longtime customer Elizabeth Brigham praised Jones’ work.
“Nancy is an incredibly talented stylist,” Brigham said. “She doesn’t just cut and style; she listens. She’s not pushy about products or coloring and won’t suggest things that don’t fit your personality.”
Walk-ins are welcome.
New Attitudes Day Spa is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Its phone number is 828-488-1449.
