Positive case identified at long-term care facility

In a press release issued by Swain County Health Department Thursday evening, the department shared that there has been an individual who was working at a long-term care facility in Swain County who tested positive for COVID-1i.

According to the release, the individual was a subcontract medical provider working at the long-term care facility and is not a county resident. They are self-isolating currently.

The Swain County Health Department is coordinating with the long-term care facility to complete contact tracing. Additional steps will be determined if there are additional cases of Swain County residents discovered.

The press release also states the following:

“Potential exposures at the long-term care facility are isolated and being monitored by staff. Their families have been notified. Swain County Health Department, Smoky Mountain Urgent Care and the long-term care facility have plans in place to assess, test and monitor those at the facility. We will continue to update the public with any new information.”
