Dewaine Berry Winchester
On Monday, Dec. 23, the Swain County Sheriff's Office arrested Dewaine Berry Winchester, 55, in connection with a significant drug trafficking operation.
Winchester has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver (PWIMSD) methamphetamine, simple possession of schedule II controlled substances (Oxycodone), felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of drug activity, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen goods. Winchester was given a secured bond of $225,000.
This arrest follows an investigation initiated by a theft reported at the EBCI commodities building in Cherokee on Dec. 16. The diligent efforts of officers, in collaboration with the Cherokee Indian Police Department, led to the successful resolution of this case, said the SCSO.
The arrest was made possible through the execution of a search warrant at 1200 Lands Creek Road in Bryson City.
“We are grateful for the outstanding cooperation and support from the Cherokee Indian Police Department. Their partnership was instrumental in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion,” said Sheriff Curtis Cochran.
