On Monday morning, Oct. 28 around 9:00 a.m., Swain County High School was put on lockdown. After Swain County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched the campus and the agency found there was no threat to school safety, the school lockdown was lifted, which was about 45 minutes later.

School board to adopt policy directed at unruly sports fans

Among actions during the October Swain County Schools Board of Education meeting was the first reading of several revised policies. While the bulk of adjustments are simply clerical, Superintendent Mark Sale said he plans to bring an additional policy to address behavior at sporting events.

Bryson City’s board has hired veteran Swain County Sheriff’s Lt. Charlie Robinson as the town’s new police chief. A detective with Swain County for eight years, Robinson, 47, will start work in his new role as chief Oct. 30.
