Elk take over at Mountain Farm Museum
An entire herd of elk took over the Mountain Farm Museum on Saturday, Feb. 4 around dusk near the Oconaluftee Visitor's Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near the Cherokee entrance into the park. The elk can often be spotted in the area, particularly in the large field near the visitor's center. Elk were reintroduced into the park in 2002. Another herd is in the Cataloochee area of the park near Maggie Valley. Park visitors are advised to keep their distance and stay at least 150 feet away from the animals.
