Ocean Zaelynn Crowe, treasured daughter of Kaniah and Dodge, born February 25, 2019, died peacefully in the arms of her parents after six beautiful and unforgettable hours. 

A beautiful baby girl who touched so many lives in such a brief time. Ocean experienced holding hands with mommy and daddy and many hugs and kisses from her family, listening as her mommy and daddy sang her songs, read her books and being told “I love you”  countless times.

 

Wilson D. Pinyan, 93, founder of P&J Campground on Deep Creek, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL.

Mr. Pinyan is survived by his wife Jo, her two sons, Butch Gray and Randy Gray as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the region.

Throughout his career, Mr. Pinyan transported and sold produce from agricultural fields in south Florida to markets in the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, establishing many long-term relationships. 

The family is planning a Celebration of Life memorial at the Campground on April 20, 2019 at 2 pm.

Vernell Brooks Coday, 84, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday February 20, 2019. Vernell was born on Chambers Creek in Swain County to the late Lloyd and Lela Garland Brooks. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leahman Coday Sr., and two sisters, Opal Brown, and Beatrice Waldroup.

Peggy Oneal Shuler, 88, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday February 19, 2019. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Lawson Emory Shuler and Hyacinth Mildred Huffstetler Shuler. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Aleithia “Lib” Roseman, Moeina Welch, and Wanda Lee Shuler, and two brothers, Wayne Eustes Shuler and Talmadge Eugene Shuler.

Marsha Marie Sutton, 64, of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday February 13, 2019. 

Marsha enjoyed working at her store at the flea market, singing (Patsy Cline songs), and just spending time with her family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; EDale and Doneita Mann; her daughter Doneita Vazquez; and by her sister Pam Mann

Walter Lee Stanberry, passed away on February 4, 2019. He is survived by his father Walter Ben Stanberry, Three sons, Reggie Scott Stanberry, Archie Lee Stanberry and Jeremy Burl Stanberry, and one daughter Carrie Michelle Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Cochran and his mother Rhoda Lee Stanberry.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Jurnada Beasley Laney, 86, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Liza Bowers and Os Frady.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, her daughter, Linda Sue Laney Wilkinson, her son, Roger Lee Laney, and granddaughters Beverly Laney Kirkland, Kassi Laney Mahan, and Heather Bryson Mallard.

Sylvester “Sonny” Hill, 63, of the Big Cove community passed away peacefully Friday, January 25, 2019. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Jesse and Yonnie Watty Hill and husband of the late Barbara Sequoyah Hill.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Timothy Lane Hill and niece, Cecily “Dani” Hill; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Kathy Gail Wiggins, 60, lifelong resident of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday January 23, 2019. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late Harley and Dessie Gibby Wiggins.

She is survived by one son, Michael Wiggins; three grandchildren Harley, Sadie, and Lonnie Wiggins; siblings, Junior Harley Wiggins and wife Libby of Bryson City, Sally Jane Woodard of Bryson City, and Raymond Lewis Wiggins and wife Barnell of Covington, GA; one aunt, Eva McMahan, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Helen Louise Nations, 84, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 24, 2019. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ada Fields Ross and wife of the late Rev. Herbert Hoover Nations.

She attended Galbreath Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford Nations.

Georgia Lois Hyde Lackey went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday the 27th. She was preceded in death by her son Fred and daughter Kathy; a grandson Michael; mom, Hettie McDonald and father Houston Hyde; stepfather, Wade McDonald; sister, Jean Clark and brother, Emmett Hyde.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ray Lackey; son, Charles Ray (Joyce); daughters, Ann Woodard, Yvonne Swan, and Sandra Lackey of Bryson City; son-in-law, Jamie Waldroup; nine grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Staff Sgt. Randy Douglas Bocook 72, of Bryson City, died in his home, January 20, 2019.

Joyce Stephenson, 66, of Brevard, formerly of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 16, 2019. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Leila Collins Stephenson.

She is survived by her children, Angie Shuler, Joey Ball, Brent Ball, Jennifer Sanchez, Joretta Robinson; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three siblings.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm Saturday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Cogdill officiated with burial in the Watkins Cemetery.

Richard Peoples, 60, of Whittier, passed away on Thursday January 17, 2019 after an intense fight with AL Cardiac Amyloidosis and multiple myeloma. 

Barbara Josephine Greene Maney, our beautiful and loving  Wife, Mother, “Ma”, Sister, and Aunt, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the age of 85. 

She suffered with Alzheimers for many years but fought her battle courageously to the end.
