Cathie (Kasha) Lossiah 71, of Cherokee went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday July 17, 2019.

She was an award-winning swimmer and photographer, a craftsperson in multiple media, a gardener and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse James Lossiah, Jr.; her parents, Ross Pierce and Carolyne Watkins Pierce; and her brother, Bruce Pierce.

Dale Davis, 62, of Whittier passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Haven and Clara Treadway Davis.

He is survived by his son, Chad Davis and wife Jennaya of Greensboro, NC; two grandsons, Haven and Sam Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2019 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home.

Helen Stevenson Odiear, 81, of Bryson City and formerly of Chapel Hill, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. 

A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Lawson and Florence Duncan Stevenson and wife of the late John Lee Odiear. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Tommy, and Donald, and sisters, Ruby Buchanan, Deanie Cook, and Dorothy Chambers, and one son-in-law, Rick Shuler.

September 1st, 1954 - June 29th, 2019

 

Debbie Callahan, daughter of Lewis Sr. and Georgia Snyder passed away after a long battle with cancer on 06/29/2019. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece Callahan of Franklin, NC. 

Amy Elizabeth Jones Zuniga, 30, gained her wings on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, after a one-year courageous battle with leukemia. 

A native of Bryson City, Amy was the daughter of Diane Jones and the late Carroll James Jones. She was also preceded in death by grandparents Glenna Burns Waldroup and Bud Waldroup; and Frankie and Donald Jones.

Stephanie Leanne Hyde, 42, of Robbinsville passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 due to a terrible automobile accident.

Kathy Elaine Houghton, 62, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 26, 2019. A native of Plant City, FL, she was the daughter of Neoma Houghton of Franklin and the late Charles Houghton.

She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Erin Jenkins of Stecoah and Steven Jenkins of Stecoah; grandchild, Leo Jenkins of Stecoah; Sister, Kari Houghton of Franklin; and many other extended family members.

A memorial service was held 3:30 PM  Sunday at Victory Baptist Church.

Marsha L. Sulkey, 73, of Ottawa IL, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 22, 2019 after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer. 

A native of Grand Ridge IL. and later Ottawa IL. She was the daughter of the late James and Marie Cantlin Olson, and wife of the late William J. Sulkey. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Joan Olson Fincham, and one brother, Roger Olson.

Glenda Mae Jones Maney gained her heavenly wings on June 27, 2019 in a local health care facility surrounded by her son and daughter-in-law and her health care providers. Born on May 21, 1934 in the town of Judson, NC, her homesite now covered by the waters of Fontana Lake to parents, Samuel Nathan Crisp and wife Ethel DeHart Crisp. She was the oldest of five children.

Robert Glen Parris, 36, of Whittier went to be with the Lord and his mother Wednesday, June 12, 2019. A native of Whittier, he was the son of Buddy Lee Parris of Whittier and the late Barbara Williamson Parris. He was a member of East Alarka Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Gladys Parris and Ollie and Glen Williamson.

John Henry Ball, 80, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 16, 2019. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Ruben and Carrie Ball.

He is survived by six children, Linda Ball, Diane Winstead, Tammy O’Sullivan, Joey Ball, Brent Ball, and Angie Shuler; 20 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one brother, Gene Ball, and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Cogdill will officiate with burial at Watkins Cemetery.

Scott Nathaniel (Rhino) Rochester, 48, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 12, 2019. A native of Swain County, he was the son of Sarah Eller Rochester of Bryson City and the late Carl Edward Rochester.

He was a member of the 1988 Swain High State Championship Football Team and an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, James D. and Minnie B. Rochester; cousin, Denning Rochester; aunt, Carolyn Fortner and uncle, Jim Rochester.

Nell Stephens Owl, 78, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. She was born on April 7, 1941 in Lyons, Georgia and later made her home in Cherokee, NC. She is now rejoicing with her husband, Robert Stanley Owl; parents, Leonard “Linton” Stephens and Annie Mae Brown Stephens; brothers, Paul, Jack, James, and Lloyd Stephens. Nell was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church.

Cecil Monroe Nations, 84, of Bessemer City, NC went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2019 at Caromont Regional Hospital in Gastonia. Born on Jan. 31, 1935, in Whittier, he was the son of the late Claude Cecil and Lillie Seagle Nations. He was preceded in death by one sister, Muriel Woodard, and three brothers, Regal, Laburn and Claude Nations Jr.
