Joan Thorsen VonSchondorf completed her Heavenly journey at 2:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2018 with her buddy Joanne and Dennis. Yes, we did walk the last mile together.

We are certain, greeting Joan at the Heavenly gate, was PopPop, Nana, twin brother R.C., sister Carol and many friends.

The family would like to thank the awesome associates of Mountain View Manor for doing it better and above and beyond. We also thank Four Seasons Hospice for providing comfort and caring for Joan, her family and her buddy Joanne. Joan and Joanne were the 131 Team at Mountain View Manor.

Coleman F. Dellinger, 80, of Lincolnton, NC passed away on January 20, 2018. A native to Lincoln County he was born on May 10, 1937 to the late Luther Glenn Dellinger and Myrtle Alice Hovis Dellinger.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Theo Dellinger; sister, Mabel Wilson, and brother-in-law, Richard Reddick.

Mr. Paul Ensley Jenkins, age 77, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Deer Park Health and Rehabilitation.

Lucille Louise “Penny” Brancato Brandt, 72, went to her Heavenly Father on January 17, 2018 in Bryson City, NC. 

She was born to Minnie and Anthony Brancato on November 1, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. A former resident of Sharpsville, PA Penny worked in retail sales, was active in the United Methodist Women’s group, enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening and camping. Penny was a member of the Bryson City United Methodist Church, and her personal ministry was to be a trained Stephen Minister, a lay listening ministry. 

Patricia Ann Parton, 76, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 17, 2018. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bonnie King Parton. She attended Jackson Line Baptist Church for many years.

Patricia was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Parton; sister, Barbara Bryant; and her nephew, Ellis Bryant.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, aunts, uncles and other extended family and friends.

On January 16, 2018 Dorothy Ann Sitton Weeks passed away peacefully. She was the daughter of the late Glenn and Phobe Brown Sitton and the wife of the late Gene Weeks.

Gastonia – Faye Kilpatrick Gillespie went to her heavenly home on January 13, 2018.  She was born on December 11, 1930 to the late Troy Alvin and Estelle Carson Kilpatrick in Swain County, NC.  Her family later moved to Virginia, where she graduated from Hampton High School.  She also graduated from Mars Hill College and West Hampton College of the University of Richmond with a BA degree.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband Arthur S. Gillespie, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Robert Ross, son-in-law Robert (Bob) Armstead, and brother-in-law, James Gillespie.

Claudia Patterson Johnson, born 11/11/1946 in Bryson City, NC, passed away on December 22, 2017 from complications from cancer treatment. 

She was the elder daughter of Francis Claude and Viola Patterson and sister to Sarah P. Wilson of Monroe, GA. 

Claudia graduated as Salutatorian of her undergraduate class at UNC-Greensboro and obtained a Master’s Degree in Microbiology from N.C. State. It was there where she met her husband of 47 years, Lewis M. Johnson. 

Beloved Father and Grandfather Talmage Lee Jones Jr. 72 of Bryson City, NC passed away on January 11, 2018.

Memorial service details to be announced.

T.L. was born in Bryson City, NC to Talmadge Lee Jones Sr. and Lula Coulter Jones on August 14, 1945.

Emmaline Lambert, 86, of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord, Friday January 12, 2018. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Belva Smith Owle. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one son, Nick Lambert and several brothers and sisters.

Emmaline loved flower gardening, and was a lover of all animals especially dogs and cats.

Linda F. Nations, 70, of the Alarka community went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 10, 2018. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Maggie and Grady Nations. She was a member of the Senior Club at the Bryson City Church of God and faithfully attended the Bryson City Church of God.

She is survived by her sister, Brenda Nations; her beloved cat, Andy; and several cousins.

James “Russell” Maney, 85, of Brevard went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018.          

He was the son of the late Julius Homer and Laura Kirkland Maney.   

Russell was a devoted Christian serving in Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher for many years.  

He graduated from Swain County High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Olin after 33 years of service.  

Regina (Gina) Lynn Cooke Shuler, 50, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 3, 2018. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of Robert Cooke of Whittier and the late Josephine Allen Cooke.

In addition to her father, she is also survived by two daughters, Jade Shuler, and Jordan Shuler both of Bryson City; four sisters, Shawna, Tonya, Olivia, and Amanda; and  several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. 

Gina was a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was very kind and sweet to anyone she met anywhere.

Jack Saunooke, 80, of Whittier, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday evening January 4, 2018. A native of Cherokee, NC, he was the son of the late Cowney Saunooke and Geneva Toineeta Welch. Jack was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Cherokee and was a U.S. Army Veteran as well as a member of American Legion Steve Youngdeer Post 143 in Cherokee. An avid Green Bay Packer fan, what Jack enjoyed most was babysitting for his grandchildren. 

Robert Jenkins, 83, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 3, 2018. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret Cooper Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Jenkins and his daughter, Sonja Mason.

He was a US Army Veteran.

Robert is survived by two children, Jeff Jenkins and wife Bobbi Jo of Bryson City, Rita Moss and husband Randal of Sylva; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Carson of Penrose, and Betty Jo White of Hernando, FL.
