Larry Eugene Hutchison, 63, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 16, 2017. 

A lifelong resident of Bryson City, he was the son of the late James and Ruth Blessing Hutchison and husband of the late Sharron Hutchison. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Hutchison.

Annie Nations Ward, 73, of Whittier, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 14, 2017. 

A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Thomas and Vinnie Marjorie Jones Nations, and wife to the late Roy Ward. In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy King and Dorothy Nations, and two brothers, Jim and Bill Nations.

Annie was a charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dillsboro, NC.

Donald Lee McGaha, 54, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 14, 2017. 

A native of Swain County, he was the son of Patsy Jenkins Maney of Bryson City, and the late Donnie Lee McGaha. In addition to his father he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Christin Nicole Phillips and a son D.J. McGaha.

Kermit D. Allen, age 74, of Bryson City went home to be with his Heavenly Father, May 13, 2017, at his home after a battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Olive Allen, sister Elizabeth Allen, and brother Gwin Allen.

Zeb Vance Lindsay, 84, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 3, at his residence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he retired from the National Park Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Ernest and Louella Lindsay; sister, Maudell Hyde; brothers, Max and Cam Lindsay; and son, Alan Lindsay.

Larry Douglas Woodard, 68, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 4th at the home.

 A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Bill and Linda Woodard.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Cochran Woodard, and three children, Vicki Davis, Dewayne “Pedab” Woodard and Chad Woodard.

Larry had nine grandchildren and one great grandchild who were all his pride and joy; Jackson Corn, Jeremiah Hampton, Johnny Woodard, Drew Woodard, Briar Corn, Zackery Woodard, Summer Davis, Hope Woodard, Skye Woodard and Oakland Woodard.

Bobby Ray Hayes Sr. (River Rat), went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 7, 2017. Bobby was born on January 13, 1947.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Hyman and Freda Lowe Hayes. Also a daughter Peggy Jean Hayes and four brothers Tommy, Jack Dempsey, James, Charles, and two sisters, Hazel Richardson and Ellen King.

Bob was a deacon at Rock Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Pepsi Cola. He is survived by his wife Peggy Hayes and one son Bobby Ray Hayes Jr. and one daughter Carla Hayes Passmore and husband Greg Passmore. 

Eliza Woodard Barker, 91, of Bryson City went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Cal and Flora Woodard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Barker; brothers, George Woodard, Bill Woodard, Burrell Woodard, Craig Woodard; and her sisters, Nancy Brooks, Lela Woods, Lottie Green, and Dallie Saunders. She was also survived by one sister, Dorothy Dyer.

Billy Shannon Pyles, 42, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 30, 2017. 

A native of Swain County, he was the son of Jan Fortner Pyles of Bryson City and the late Billy Jean Pyles. In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Sue Pyles; grandparents, Johnnie H. Fortner Sr. and Nell Fortner, and several aunts and uncles.

 He belonged to Victory Baptist Church and was a Fire Fighter for many years.

Nannie Sue Ball Blanton, 74, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 28, 2017 in a Buncombe County Hospital after a short illness. 

A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Al and Nota Mae Dowell Ball. She was an active member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, the Jail Ministry, and Church Missionary Work.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. Ball, and Dan Ball, and a sister Joanne Sutton.

Jennifer Dugan Toineeta, 34, of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 19, 2017. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of the late Jackie Dugan Queen. In addition to her mother she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jayda Toineeta, and her grandparents, Jessie Owle Dugan and James Boyce Dugan.

Jennifer was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church.

Willard Cook of Darrington, Washington, was born October 1, 1938, to Edna and Albert Cook in Wilmot, NC, and passed away at home on March 16, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Kermit, Homer, Mack and one sister, Frances Tucker.

He is survived by his brother Berlin of Arlington, WA, and two sisters, Eula Sanders of Darrington and Doris McMillon of Wilmot.

He married Mary Helen Jones and had three daughters Connie, Carolyn, and Crystal. 

BREVARD- Lou Edith Medford Crisp Miller passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Oaks of Brevard. 

Lou was born on December 30, 1929 in Swain County to the late Charlie and Laura Lollis Medford. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Odas W. Crisp, who was the Station Manager of Southern Railway in Brevard, and her second husband, John W. Miller, a retired insurance agent.

Lou is survived by her cousin, Shirley Ann Lollis of Bryson City and numerous other cousins. She did not have any children of her own during either marriage.

Richard J. Shepherd died peacefully in his home on Sunday the 9th of April, 2017 in Cape Canaveral, FL at the age of 76. Richard is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughter Tracy McFadden and his son, Joe Shepherd.  

Rebecca Mary Fuller Barton, age 91, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. 

Mrs. Barton was born November 12, 1925, in Bryson City, NC to the late William Ace and Laura Cochran Fuller. She had worked in Fontana on the construction of the dam where she met and married the love of her life. Mrs. Barton had attended Fontana Community Church. 

After moving to Murphy, she attended Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Minnie Ferguson Sunday School Class. 

Rebecca enjoyed cooking, sewing, and making visits to the nursing home.
