Edgar G. (Buddy) Waldroup passed away, Friday September 22, 2017 at Tsali Care Nursing Facility after a period of declining health.

Susie Mae Wiggins Clemmer, 94, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 23, 2017 in a Jackson County health care facility. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late  Will and Marie Cooper Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bruce Cunningham and Lander Lee Clemmer; and her siblings, Carell Wiggins, Arnold Wiggins, R.L. Wiggins, Velva Phillips, and Euestes Wiggins.

Hazel Louise Jenkins Della Valle, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2017, a native of Swain County.  She was the daughter of the late Fred and Lura Thomasson Jenkins. 

Laura Ellen Slagle Holden died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 3:10 p.m.  

Born in a hollow in Lauada, NC, the daughter of Catherine Byrd Slagle and Nelson Clyde Slagle, she transcended this earthy realm surrounded by her two daughter-in-law’s, Ravita Maharaj Holden and Laura Barker Holden, and two dear friends, after a long and valiant fight in ICU.  There are not words to describe the hole which will be left as a result of her passing.  

Jeanette Parton, 85, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 16, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thad and Ethel Parton; children, Tommy Nelson, Rhena Charmaine Nelson, and Baby Nelson; and her brothers, Eugene, Mono, and Marshall Parton.

She attended Sawmill Hill Baptist Church when she was able.

Lauren Ashley Nicole Hugelmaier, 29, of Raleigh, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017. She was born on June 9, 1988, in Los Angeles County, CA.

Born on February 9, 1920, in Swain County, Mrs. Lindsay was the daughter of Garland and Bertha (Southards) Walls and “Sis” to brothers Leo, Arvil and Dred all of whom served their country during World War II. Leona’s husband, Gordon C. Lindsay, also served during World War II; she delighted her friends and family with stories of their adventures during this time.  

 

December 8, 1930 – September 6, 2017

 

Dorothy Mae Burnett Marr died on September 6, 2017. She was born in the Needmore community near Bryson City and was the first of nine children born to Don and Jessie Burnett.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Allen, son Daniel, and grandson John Allen Hancock, along with her parents and brothers, Arnold, David, and Melvin.

Aaron Bennie Robinson, 89, of Bryson City passed away August 27 at Blue Ridge on the Mountain nursing facility. He was born in Haywood County but lived most of his life in Swain County. He was a veteran in W W II, a Mason and a member of the United Construction Workers Union. He was known for his skills as a “Master Blaster” and worked in many places throughout the country before settling into a job with Swain County Maintenance for which he worked until his retirement. He was a dedicated Democrat and worked many of the elections.

Donald (Don) Junior Herron, 67, of Bryson City, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday August 29, 2017. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Thad and Jessie Phillips Herron, and husband of the late Betty Rosealee Cook Herron.

Robert Howard Gillespie, Jr., 79, of Cherryville, NC went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 24, 2017. A resident of Cherryville, he was the son of the late Robert Hall and Belva Gladys Andrews Gillespie.

Alice Faye Carson Cook, 71, of Bryson City, formerly of Canby, Oregon went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 24, 2017. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Mildred Wiggins Carson.

Charlie D. Maney, 88, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 28, 2017. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Sam and Laura Sutton Maney and husband of the late Alda Marie Maney to whom he was married for 50 years.

He is survived by his three sons, Bobby, Charles and Sam Maney; his wife, Glenda Maney; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters, Hester and Myrtle; brothers, Lonzo, Johnny, Barney; and his step-son, Ron Jones. 

Vernon E. Miller, 78, of Bryson City, died peacefully at his home after a long illness on Monday, August 28, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Miller.

Vernon was retired from the U.S. Navy and Florida Power and Light.

Harold Loyd Lowe, 70, of Bryson City, entered into the Haven of Rest on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017, at a skilled nursing facility.
