Gastonia – Faye Kilpatrick Gillespie went to her heavenly home on January 13, 2018.  She was born on December 11, 1930 to the late Troy Alvin and Estelle Carson Kilpatrick in Swain County, NC.  Her family later moved to Virginia, where she graduated from Hampton High School.  She also graduated from Mars Hill College and West Hampton College of the University of Richmond with a BA degree.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband Arthur S. Gillespie, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Robert Ross, son-in-law Robert (Bob) Armstead, and brother-in-law, James Gillespie.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Vencie Boatwright (Charles); son, Arthur S. Gillespie III (Kathy), and daughters, Mary Gillespie Armstead and Becky Gillespie Carithers (Roger).  She was very proud of her grandchildren, Anna Gillespie Schneider (Eric), Sarah Carithers Conner (Matt), Erin Armstead, Nathan Gillespie, and Kelsey Carithers.  She also had two brothers-in-law, Paul Gillespie and David Gillespie (Judi), sister-in-law Marilyn Gillespie, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family who were very dear to her.

Faye taught school for many years at South Gastonia School, but her real love was serving the Lord through the many ministries of her Baptist churches.  She and her husband were members of First Baptist Church in Gastonia for over 30 years.  Faye was also involved in many volunteer activities at Gaston Memorial Hospital and other agencies in Gaston County.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 2650 Union Road, Gastonia, 28054.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Missions Fund of First Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the love and care given to Faye by the staff of Terrace Ridge, as well as Gaston Hospice.
