Joseph Oren Ashley
Mr. Joseph Oren Ashley, better known as “Joe” age 75, of Warrensville passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
A memorial service with military rites was held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Goodman, Rev. Rex Eldreth and Rev. Wade Huntsinger officiating.
The family received friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Bald Mountain Baptist Church.
Mr. Ashley was born in Ashe County on April 23, 1941 to the late James Paul and Lillie Elliott Ashley. He was a member Warrensville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, and he met the love of his life while square dancing. He retired from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. While working and living in Swain County he was an active leader and dedicated member of the Swain County Rescue Squad. He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Ashley is survived by wife of 49 years; Peggy Ashley, one son; Jim Ashley and wife Patricia of Burlington, two daughters; Alice Langseth and husband Erick of Jefferson, and Joann Ashley of Cincinnati, OH, one sister; Nancy Myers and husband Jim of Advance, NC and a brother; Harry Ashley and wife Janie of Warrensville, eleven grandchildren; Elijah, Amanda, Stephanie, Lauren, James, Will, David, Jackson, Hannah, Caleb, and Annaliesa, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
