Joseph Wesley Edmonds
Joseph W. “Jay” Edmonds, age 93, passed away on Saturday, June 1st at his home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Asheville to the late Edgar Edmonds and Rachel Edmonds Gunter. Jay was preceded in death by a sister, Willene Crawford, and a brother, W.D. Gunter. During WWII he served in the European Theater, then returned to Bryson City and attended the University of Tennessee and Gardner Webb College, where he met his love and best friend, Clara Andrews Edmonds.
Jay is survived by Clara, his loving wife of 69 years; 4 sons, Joe (Penny), Jim (Jane), Mike (Barbara), and Mitch (Michelle); 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Mitchell and Mary Leah Sherrill; and many special nieces and nephews.
Jay retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years. For many years he was a very active member of College Park Baptist Church and a member of Piedmont Masonic Lodge 685, where he was a Master Mason and Past Master.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 8th at 1:00 p.m. at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
