High Point – Ruth Maurlene Wilson Tabor passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Hospice Home of High Point. She was surrounded by her loved ones and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. We are all richer by having her presence in our lives and will miss her and her jolly, boisterous laughter.
Ruth was born in Swain County, North Carolina on July 14, 1928. She was the first child of twelve children born to the late Newell Alexander and Izetta Holden Wilson. She grew up on a wonderful farm in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains and had many funny and sentimental stories of her life there with all her siblings whom she loved and cherished. She graduated from Swain County High School in May of 1947. She then married her now deceased husband, John Carroll Tabor, the love of her life, on June 26, 1949. They relocated to High Point where they raised three daughters.
Ruth was a loving and devoted mother and a fierce protector of her family. She was a meticulous housewife who loved to embroider, was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and she loved watching all the beautiful things of nature. She was a loyal patriot and loved her country and what the American flag stood for. Her strong faith in God sustained her throughout her life and her commitment to her faith will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Vikki Tabor and Kathy West (Haywood) of High Point, and Renee Minton (Joe) of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Brooks Smoot (Rebekah) of Greensboro, Taylor West (Maria) and Derek West (Traci) of High Point, and Malia Minton of Winston-Salem; one very precious great-grandson, Ryder Holden West; and two step-great-grandchildren, Aimee and Logan.
