Cross Country compete next at WCU

Swain County High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are in a rebuilding year. The teams traveled to Hendersonville on Saturday, Aug. 26 for the Western North Carolina Cross Country Carnival meet. 

The Swain Lady Devils finished 13 out of 22 teams. Senior Emma Pindur was the top runner finishing in fourth place overall.

“Our teams are in a rebuilding phase. We lost a lot of seniors last season, and we have a hardworking team,” said Julie Richards, head coach for both teams. 

Jennifer Chatham is assistant coach.

The Swain Maroon Devils finished 10th place out of 20 team. The top runner was Brenden Ulaner with 20:51.

The team will travel to Cullowhee on Saturday, Sept. 2 for a meet at Western Carolina University. 

“We really like racing at Western because it feels like a local meet, and we’re looking for our kids to improve on their times from last Saturday,” Richards said.
