Devils golf starts season with back-to-back first place finishes

The Swain County High School golf team started their season on March 7 at Smoky Mountain Country Club.

Leading the five player team was senior Nick Dole who shot a 6 over 41 and finished first overall. Placing second was junior Isaac Baker with a 46, third was sophomore Ashton Buchanan 49, and rounding out the top four was Junior TJ Shuler 50. Playing in his first match was freshman Joe Eagleman with a 59. 

Overall, the Maroon Devils placed first with a team total of 186, Blue Ridge 204, and Robbinsville third with a 228. 

The Maroon Devils traveled to Connestee Falls on Tuesday, March 12. The Devils took first place again with a team total of 181. Firing a 1 over 37, Isaac Baker led the young squad against Cherokee (201), Highlands (204), and Rosman (didn’t place). Nick Dole and Joe Eagleman both posted a 47, Ashton Buchanan 50, and TJ Shuler 51. 

Coach Crisp commenting on both matches stated, “We have a young team, but we have great potential. The skies are the limit with this team.” 

The team will host a home match at Smoky Mountain Country Club on Thursday, March 14. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
