The Swain High Lady Devils soccer team hosted the Alleghany Trojans from Sparta, NC on Thursday night in the 2nd Round of the playoffs. The Trojans were coming off a 1st round win over South Stanley earlier in the week. Swain had a bye for the first round.

The Lady Devils got on the score board early scoring one and a half minutes into the game. Senior Kyndall Cochran scored off a pass from Freshman Avery Maples. 13 minutes into the game Cochran would find the back of the net once again off a pass from Sophomore Isabelle Green. With seven minutes left in the half Cochran would score once more off another pass from Maples. Cochran would finish off the half with one minute left scoring once again, this time from a pass from Freshman Kaylee Simmons. Cochran and Green would hook up for one more goal 12 minutes into the second half. The Lady Devils would go on to win 5-0.

On defense, Sophomore Bri Ross would lead the way with 32 clears/steals. Sophomore Kate Poss added 28, followed by Senior Jessie Richards with 25, Junior Peyton Hines with 19 and Junior Rebecca Duncan with 11. "Overall the girls played a great game.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. "We tried a few different things in this game and the girls executed them really well.”

The player of the game for the Lady Devils was Senior Kyndall Cochran. “Kyndall did a great job taking advantage of some scoring opportunities.” said Cline.

The Lady Devils improve to 17-3 overall. They will advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs to host the Mountain Island Charter School on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
