The Lady Devils soccer team lost in a 2-0 game against Pisgah on Wednesday, April 5, continuing a bumpy ride of recent games for them that had some wins and some losses.

Pisgah’s first goal came nine minutes into the first half and then they scored again a few minutes after that. But that was the last time either team scored all game.

The rest of the game saw the teams trying to score in vain – taking shots that just didn’t turn into goals.

Anna Gray led defense with 11 clears/steals, while Sophie Matz got seven and Emmie Fuller got four.

Gracie Sutton got 15 saves – one of which was a diving penalty kick save. She was also the player of the game. Head Coach Scott Cline said she “really kept [them] in the game with some of her amazing saves.”

“Pisgah had some good shots on frame and Gracie was able to stop a lot of them,” he added.

Cline called the game a difficult one – in part due to the newly humid, high temperatures.

“It was definitely a tough game for us. It was the hottest game we have played all season, and we were missing seven players all together for various reasons,” he said. “With Spring break this next week, it should allow us to get most of our players back and hopefully heal some of the injuries we have been playing with.”

This was the Lady Devils’ last game until after Spring break. They’ll play the Hayesville Yellow Jackets on Monday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
