Swain’s Brown is 1A Heavyweight Champion

Greensboro – The NCHSAA held their individual wrestling State Championships this past weekend in Greensboro. Swain sent 8 individual wrestlers to compete for a Championship.
Senior Noland Brown captured the ultimate prize in his sport this past weekend. Brown won the NCHSAA 1A State Championship in the Heavyweight class over the 2 day event.
In the championship match, Brown scored a 9-3 decision over Javon Armstrong of Pamlico County. Armstrong entered the tournament as the #1 seed from the East with a 21-1 overall record. While Brown entered the tournament as the #1 seed in the West with a 31-4 overall record.
Round one saw Brown square off with the #4 seed from the East, Cade Whitley (41-5) from South Stanly. Brown scored a 3-0 decision over Whitley to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Heavyweight bracket.
Nyterrius Williams of Rosewood was Brown’s opponent for the Semi-Finals. Williams (28-5) advanced with a win over CJ Henderson (28-2) of Elkin. In the Semi-Finals Brown pinned Williams at the 5:23 mark to advance to the State Championship match.
Among the other seven Maroon Devils competing at state, four placed within the top three in their respective weight classes. Jonas Trejo finished as State Runner-up in the 145 weight class. Lucas Brown and Sam Everhardt captured 3rd in the 145 and 152 pound weight classes.

Marcus Loving (Bradford Prep, 39-8) won by decision over William Pendelton (Manteo, 23-12) (Dec 10-7)
