The Swain County Maroon Devils baseball team has seen ups and downs for the last week, winning at home against the Brevard Blue Devils but losing two other times at away games.

Against the Blue Devils on Wednesday, April 19, the team won 7-6.

The game was a tense one, with players on both sides finding it hard to break through to score initially – they made the rounds of the plates but were struck out before finding ways home.

Gabe Lillard led in runs, getting three; he was followed by Lawson Woodard with two and Cory Stillwell and Reese Winchester both got one each.

Lillard, Woodard and Ronnie Griggs all got two hits each. Winchester and Bradyn Ruais got one each.

On the pitchers’ mound, Lillard got five hits against, six runs against and two earned runs.

Following that, the Maroon Devils ran into some trouble, falling to Brevard in a 4-2 game on Thursday, April 20, and then losing again to Tuscola on Monday, April 24 in a 7-3 game. Both were away games.

The Maroon Devils baseball team played Andrews in another away game on Tuesday, April 25.
