Both the Swain County High baseball and softball teams suffered losses Tuesday, May 9.

The Lady Devils softball team’s season ended on Tuesday night, with an 11-0 loss to the Union Academy Cardinals in the first round of the NCHSAA Softball Playoffs.

Head Coach Toby Burrell said the game had been a tough one.

“It was a tough game, Union Academy is a very good team,” said by email. “It is always hard at the end of the season, especially with our seniors. Our seniors have given so much to our program that it is hard to let them go. I am super proud of the young ladies they have become and excited for what their future holds.”

The Lady Devils had also recently faced a loss of 8-4 against the Murphy Bulldogs on Thursday, May 4.

Meanwhile, the Maroon Devils baseball team fell 1-0 to South Stanly in the playoffs on Tuesday, as well.

The game saw Aidan Southards getting the lone hit for the Devils.

That came after the Devils played a double-header game May 4, in which they beat both Andrews and Murphy, the former in a 13-0 game and the latter by 8-1.
