The Lady Devils soccer team continued a winning streak with a 9-0 victory over Tri-County on Thursday, May 4, which was also Senior Night.

The players were coordinated in their offense, keeping the ball near Tri-County’s goal for much of the beginning of the game. The opposing goalie managed to block several shots, but the Lady Devils scored 13 minutes in, when Mya Burrows-Kurr found Karena Cline for a goal.

Then just 20 seconds later, Burrows-Kurr found Cora Watkins for a second goal.

Then a bit after that, Kathryn Roland found Tsini McCoy for a goal, and McCoy got another goal 20 seconds later after a pass from Karena Cline.

The second half of the game saw yet more scoring, with Karena Cline finding Watkins for two goals in a row – giving Watkins her first ever hat trick.

The final goal of the game came from Lilah Foster, who scored off a pass from Rose Carson, giving the Lady Devils a 9-0 mercy rule win.

“It was great to see the whole team do a great job of moving the ball around the field. It was also great to see all the seniors play,” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “The seniors accounted for six of our nine goals in the game.”

Defense was led by Anna Gray, who got seven clears/steals, while Rose Carson was behind her with four and Audrey Zelenka and Audrey Monteith each had two.

Gracie Sutton got a shutout in goal in the first half, while Burrows-Kurr and Zelenka shared in the shutout in the second half.

Watkins was player of the game, with Scott Cline remarking that she “not only scored goals, but she also did a great job of getting the ball to her teammates.”

However, they lost a game Friday, May 5, falling 4-1 to Highlands.

But the team made up for that on Monday, May 8, as they beat the Murphy Bulldogs in a 3-1 game.
