Dr. Brandon Sutton will take the lead at Swain County Schools. Swain County Board of Education Chairman Mitch Carson made the recommendation during the board meeting on Tuesday night, March 10. Sutton’s appointment was approved with a 3-2 vote by the board.
Sutton will replace Superintendent Mark Sale who announced his resignation in December 2025. Sale will be leaving April 30.
Dr. Sutton is not new to Swain County Schools. In 2019 he was the NC Western Region Principal of the Year while serving Swain Middle School. In August 2019 Sutton became the Director of Student Services for Swain Schools.
Sutton, a graduate of Swain High School, earned his Doctorate in Education Leadership from Western Carolina University in 2019.
