A Swain County grand jury recently delivered a true bill of indictment upgrading charges to first degree murder in a December 2023 death.

On Jan. 21, the jury returned an indictment on Chasity Marie Taylor, of Bryson City, for first degree murder in the December 14, 2023, death of Isiah Buckley II following a shooting on Greasy Branch Road.

Taylor is being held in jail on a no bond for this charge. She has also been charged with several other charges related to this incident, including trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 26.

Kyle Everett Huskey is also charged in this death.

Allegedly around 5 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2023, Huskey and Taylor met on an uninhabited stretch of Greasy Branch Road with Buckley, who had been driven by a woman to Swain County from Virginia for what appears to have ended in a drug deal gone bad with both Buckley and the surviving driver having been shot.

Both Huskey and Taylor have lengthy criminal records.
