Appalachian Smoke has a sound reminiscent of the hollers the members grew up in. The band is made up of five songwriters, vocalists and instrumentalists that are “honored to sing about the history and ways of their home”, according to their website.

“We formed the band in the late summer and early fall of 2021,” Appalachian Smoke said.

When asked where the name Appalachian Smoke comes from, the band said it took them about two months to come up with a name.

“We wanted it to be something that meets the common ground of where we all call home and our ways of life, that is why we thought ‘Appalachian’ would be fitting,” they said. “The ‘Smoke’ idea was inspired by what the Cherokee called this same area, ‘the land of blue smoke.’ The smoke is always here representing where our hearts will always be.”

Members include Tim Williams on bass, BJ Taylor on mandolin, Mikel Laws on banjo/guitar, Jamie Mason on guitar/banjo, and Kenneth Rymer on dobro.

Their album, “Colder Side of Love,” will be released this Friday, and you can purchase a hard copy on their website or download from iTunes or Amazon music.

“There will be 12 songs on the album. A total of 11 originally composed by members of the band and one hymn.”
