Drowning cause of death for body found in lake

Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, Swain County deputies were dispatched to Fontana Lake at the Wilderness Marina in the Greasy Branch area of Swain County for a body that was found floating in the water.

A man and wife were fishing from the shore and saw the body floating in the lake, according to Sheriff Curtis Cochran.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday with results confirming drowning, and the death is being considered accidental. Results from the toxicology report were not available as of Wednesday morning.

An ID found on the body was for that of Jesse Lee Karrick, 37, of Leicester, N.C.
