Swain County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new mobile app designed to improve communication with residents and provide easier access to public safety information.
Sheriff Brian Kirkland said the app, developed in partnership with OCV LLC, is part of the agency’s ongoing effort to strengthen transparency and community engagement.
“Our goal is to meet the community where they are,” Kirkland said in a statement. “This app puts critical information and a direct line to our office right at your fingertips, making it easier for us to work together to protect our home.”
The app allows residents to submit tips directly to the sheriff’s office, including photos, through their smartphones. Users can also sign up for real-time push notifications about emergency situations, road closures and other public safety updates.
In addition, the app provides access to the county jail’s current inmate roster, booking details and visitation schedules.
A “Most Wanted” section lists individuals with active warrants, while a news feature includes official press releases and department updates, including information about the agency’s K-9 unit and new drone technology.
The app also includes a searchable map of registered sex offenders in the area.
The app is available for download through major app stores by searching “Swain County Sheriff,” or through a direct link provided by the sheriff’s office.
Kirkland described the launch as a significant step forward in modernizing the agency’s communication tools.
“We’re committed to making Swain County safer and more informed,” he said.
Officials emphasized that the app is not intended for reporting emergencies. Residents are advised to call 911 in emergency situations.
