The theatre was full at Swain Arts Center recently when Swain High School put on its production of “Grease School Version.” The entertainment is scheduled to continue this spring.

On Tuesday, April 23, Chi-Town Transit Authority a tribute band to the music of Chicago will return to Bryson City for another great clinic with Swain High students and a community performance. The Swain High Jazz Band will open the concert with a short set before CTA takes the stage. At the end of the performance, the Jazz students will be invited back on stage to join CTA for their final number.

“We are so excited to have Chi-Town return to Bryson City to work with our Swain High Jazz Students on the afternoon of April 23 as well as providing an amazing musical experience for our community that same evening at 7 p.m.,” shared Joe Holt, Swain Arts Center director by email. “If you missed their performance the last time they were here, you will not want to miss this encore performance. If you did catch last year’s show, you know what a great time this will be.”

The community is also invited to take part in a fun event for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day on Sunday, April 28. In the lobby of the center, people will gather from 2-5 p.m. to construct their own pinhole cameras and take them outside to shoot photos. If time allows, they will also develop the photos. In the days following, the photos will be framed and on display in the lobby.

Those planning to attend should bring their own shoebox for the project and snacks and water. (Students under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the event.)

On Saturday, May 4, Star Wars fans will be welcomed back for a screening of Return of the Jedi.

On Friday, May 10, Legacy Motown Review will return to transport crowds back to the Motown era.

Holt said he hopes these encore performances will have better turnouts than last year.

He’s also already working on scheduling performances for this fall with Appalachian Smoke taking the stage Saturday, Sept. 14.
