Last week the Maroon Devils competed at the second Bulldog Polar Bear in Murphy against Robbinsville, Cherokee and Murphy.
Maroon Devils
In the boys 500M dash, Landon Matz was 1st with 7:34, followed by Gavin Roland in 5th with 7:74, Austin Jenkins in 7th with 7:74, and Jackson Pittard in 9th with 7:84. Gavin Roland was 2nd in the 300M dash with 1:22.60, and Abhi Patel was 1st in the 1000M run with 3:19.10, followed by Jaxon McClung in 2nd with 3:23.
Swain’s Austin Jenkins was 1st in the 55M hurdles with 9.24 and the Swain boys team won the 4x200M relay. Matthew Gray was first in the high jump and Kelan McCullough was third.
Lady Devils
In the girls 55M dash, Julie Smith came in 3rd with 8:84 and Jessi Nichols in 4th with 9:94. In the 300M dash Melanie Linton was 2nd with 52:44, Amelia Rogers in 3rd with 54:54, and Laiken Harvey in 5th with 55:54.
Isabella Walker was 2nd in tall jump, followed by Kiersten Smith in 4th and in girls shot put Annasette Cooper was 3rd with Malla Bradley close behind in 4th.
Not all team members participated in this meet because they were preparing for the invitational in Winston Salem.
Stay In Your Lane HS Invitational
This past Saturday, the Swain County track team competed in the Stay In Your Lane HS Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, N.C. The Maroon Devils were one of 55 teams competing at the event, but they didn’t let that intimidate them.
Lady Devils
Swain girls did well with Amaya Hicks placing 13th in the 500M dash with 1:27.84, Gracie Monteith 17th in the 1000M run with 3:33.51, Emily Ulaner in 21st for the 1000M run with 3:58.25, Arizona Blankenship 8th in the 1600M with 5:29.29 and 2nd in the 3200M run with 11:30.94.
For high jump Gracie Sutton came in 11th, Julie Smith in 14th and Isabella Walker got 15th in the triple jump.
Maroon Devils
On the boys’ team, Landon Matz placed in 33rd for the 300M dash with 38.92 and Kane Jones was in 22nd for the 500M dash with 1:14.40.
Austin Jenkins took 6th in the 55M hurdles with 8.65 and Matthew Gray took 2nd in pole vault.
The team competed in the Polk County Reindeer Games on Wednesday but results weren’t available prior to publication date. The team will be returning Saturday, January 8th to JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem.
