This past Friday, the Swain County Maroon Devils varsity football team traveled to Andrews to face the state’s 4th ranked 1A Andrews Wildcats.

With under 10 minutes left in the second quarter, Andrew’s Isaac Weaver got a four-yard touchdown for the first score of the night followed by a good point after. The second quarter brought continued success for the Wildcats with two more scores before the first half ended, bringing the score to 21-0.

The third quarter started off with Swain receiving the second half kickoff but Reece Winchester’s pass was intercepted by Andrew’s Donovan Bateman for a 45-yard touchdown, making the score 27-0 in favor of Andrews.

Before the clock ran out in the third, the Wildcats got another touchdown.

It wasn’t until the final quarter that Swain got on the board, when Cole Wikle got a 35-yard touchdown run followed by a good point after by Oliver Reyes.
