Hayesville – The Maroon Devils got a career high 101 rushing yards from sophomore Josh Collins and scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to pull away and coast to a 42-14 win at Hayesville on Friday.
Swain’s Carson Taylor scored 4 touchdowns, including three in the second quarter to help push the Devils to their fourth win of the season.
For the game, the Devils rushed for a season high 349 rushing yards on 51 carries on their way to 455 yards of total offense, also a season high. Collins led all rushers with 101 yards on 16 carries, both career highs. Taylor finished with 72 yards on 11 carries and 4 touchdowns. Donnavin Groenewold had 84 yards on only 4 carries.
Gabe Lillard was 6 of 15 through the air good for 106 yards. Cooper Hyatt was on the receiving end of 3 of Lillard’s passes, which were good for 59 yards.
On defense, the Devils limited Hayesville’s passing attack to 131 yards through the air and picked off two passes, one each for Josh Collins and Zach Stepp.
Hayesville rushed for 121 yards on 27 carries and scored both touchdowns on the ground.
Lucas Sutton keyed the Devils defense with 13 total tackles. Nathan Bogdanowicz and Carson Taylor had 6 tackles each.
