Last Thursday, Swain baseball took on South Stanly High School at home for the 2nd round of playoffs. The Maroon Devils defeated the Rowdy Rebel Bulls 7-3 and took on the Union Academy Cardinals in the third round of the playoffs at home on Tuesday.

The game started off with both teams looking well matched with Swain getting the first run of the night. In the second inning neither team scored and both got on the board in the third, bringing the score to 2-1. The fourth inning looked good for Swain with four runs holding Union to only one, but Union got a second wind in the fifth inning, putting seven up on the scoreboard. Swain fought back with three more runs, but Union got another in the sixth, followed by no scoring for either team in the final inning, making the score a devastating one point loss for Swain of 10-9.

Lawson Woodard and Gabe Lillard had two runs each, while Reese Winchester, Will Jenkins, Gavin Lanning, Finley Crisp, and Carson Taylor had one each. Gabe Lillard, Charlie Collins, and Carson Taylor pitched the game.

The Maroon Devils played an incredible season of baseball and can be proud of their hard work and dedication to the sport.
