Swain High’s golf team finished sixth at the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament on Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2, with a total score of 891 over two separate days of playing.

The team came behind Murphy (664), Robbinsville (766), Cherokee (782), Highlands (843), and Hayesville (854).

Monday’s game was played against cold winds. Braylon Aldridge was first for Swain with a total of 105, while Skeet Cook got 106, Landon Harrison got 112 and Nathan Bogdanowicz and Lucas Sutton both got 116.

Cook qualified as an individual for regionals next Monday at Lincolnton Country Club in Lincolnton.

Coach Josh Crisp said the season has been one of trial and error for the still-young team of golfers.

“It is my belief that golf is not a game of perfection,” he said. “It is about minimizing mistakes and demands year-round dedication and practice. This team had one returning starter from last season. As a young team, we competed at our highest level, and I could not be prouder of their effort and dedication to this season. The 2024 season starts now, and I look forward to watching all of them practice and compete next year.”

Crisp said he had been encouraging the team over both days to “be a good caddie” for themselves, limit mistakes and have fun.
