The Swain County High School Maroon Devils had another impressive year for sports teams!

The Lady Devils brought home three more state titles in 2022 with the first in February becoming the first 1A team to win the 1A/2A Women’s Indoor Track Championship since 2014. In May Swain girl’s track team successfully completed another state title win when they became 1A/2A Women’s Track and Field Champions. The girls proved they weren’t done yet with another Women’s Cross Country State Championship in November. In May, the Maroon Devils and the Lady Devils both became Smoky Mountain Conference Champs in Track and Field.

Swain County High School’s beloved athletic trainer Carrie Powell was awarded with her very own championship ring after being named NCHSAA Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2020-2021 last year. The school surprised Powell with her championship ring during a basketball game in February of this year.

Back in May, then Swain senior Will Jenkins qualified for the 1A West Regional Round where he placed 39th out of 65 golfers at Mountain Glen Golf Course.

In October during a game against Highlands, Swain County senior Landon Matz made history as the first Swain boys soccer player to reach 100 goals in his high school career!
