The Bryson City Chamber of Commerce welcomed a full house to the Fryemont Inn in Bryson City on Thursday, April 23, for its 2026 Annual Membership Banquet, officially marking the start of the spring and summer season in Bryson City and Swain County.
Attendance exceeded expectations, with the event reaching full capacity at 108 guests. Chamber members, business owners, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, and community leaders gathered for an evening focused on community engagement, growth, and local collaboration.
The evening featured updates from Chamber Administrative Coordinator Ricky Sanford highlighting a year of growth for the organization, increased member engagement, and upcoming opportunities for sponsorship and ambassador involvement.
“The members of the Chamber of Commerce never cease to inspire me,” Sanford said. “Their ability to come together, collaborate, support, and deliver unique products, services, and experiences continues to powerfully and positively impact our area.”
Guests also heard presentations from local organizations and community partners including Rotary, Smoky Mountain Community Theatre, and the Marianna Black Library.
Two community leaders were recognized during the evening for their contributions to Bryson City and Swain County.
The Dennis White Business & Innovation Award was presented to Mike Drinkwater of Drinkwater Properties. Drinkwater was recognized for his continued investment in long-term housing development, his efforts to improve and maintain areas throughout Bryson City, his support of local education initiatives, and his civic leadership on infrastructure and long-term planning issues.
The Duke Energy Citizenship & Service Award was presented to Gina Wiggins in recognition of her ongoing dedication to community service and her positive impact throughout Swain County.
Chamber President Monica Brown said the evening reflected the renewed energy and engagement taking place throughout the local business community.
“It was incredibly encouraging to see such a strong turnout and so much enthusiasm from our members and community partners,” Brown said. “There’s a real sense of momentum right now in Bryson City and Swain County, and I think the evening reflected that beautifully.”
Brown also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among local businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations.
“One of the things that makes this community special is the way people continue to show up for one another,” she said. “The Chamber is proud to help create connections, support local businesses, and encourage conversations that move our community forward.”
The Chamber also recognized the many businesses and individuals who contributed door prizes and silent auction items for the event.

The Annual Membership Banquet was held at the Fryemont Inn.
