Swain Academy students build strength, confidence
Swain Academy students recently traded the classroom for a boxing ring as part of a fitness program at Kavod Fitness in Franklin.
“The program aimed to promote physical wellness and personal discipline through structured boxing sessions designed to strengthen both body and mind,” said Jacqueline McWhorter, teacher. “Training focused on physical strength, agility, cardiovascular health, and mental toughness, including focus and resilience.”
McWhorton said coaches Jeffrey Epps and Danny Antoine led the sessions, guiding students through drills and skill-based exercises.
“They also emphasized how boxing provides a safe, structured outlet for stress and emotional regulation. Students learned that discipline in the gym can translate to confidence and focus in daily life,” she added. “The program highlighted respect, perseverance and self-control—qualities that extend beyond athletics. For many students, the experience reinforced that challenges can be met head-on with determination and discipline.”
Following motivational speeches from Epps and Antione, students gloved up and entered the ring.
