Swain County Recreation Swimming Pool is expected to open May 23, but there is no certainty the waterslide will follow suit anytime soon.
Swain County Recreation Department Director Taylor Woodard reported that Splashtacular — the company responsible for engineering the county’s new waterslide — has discovered issues with its filter casing.
“It is running but not holding enough pressure,” said Woodard. “They will be back in a week.”
At which time, Woodard said she does not expect further concerns. Woodard anticipates the slide to be up and running with the pool this season.
Price adjustments for pool use were approved by commissioners at a work session meeting Tuesday.
The prior nonresidential fee of $5 was increased to $7. Residents pay $5. The nonresidential lap swim entry was $1. It has increased to $3. Residents will pay $1.
The residential seasonal membership cost was changed to $35, down $2.50 from last year. The price for a residential family of four was adjusted to $130, down $20 from last year. The cost for a small group of 10 residents to use the pool is $300, down $50 from last year.
Nonresidential pool membership has increased, overall. Individual users will pay $45 as opposed to $37.50 the prior year. A family of four nonresidential swimmers will pay $170, an increase of $20. A small group of 10 nonresidential users costs $425, up $50 from last year.
The pool will open for adult lap-swim from 10-11 a.m. Swimming lessons for children four and older will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Public use is from 12-5 p.m. Pool party reservations are from 6-8 p.m. Monday night is family night from 6-8 p.m. Parking lots for the pool and playground are being paved. Woodard said it should be finished by end of the week.
Flag football kicked off Wednesday. The first tee-ball game of the season is Friday.
Registrations are open for football and cheerleading, ages 5-12.
Woodard added that there was some work to be done on the playground.
“We are continually working on playground,” said Woodard. “Old rubber mulch will be replaced. The old bench in concrete blocks will be removed.”
