Jeff, age 59, made his final lap toward the finish line to meet his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Jeff was an avid dirt track race fan, driver and car builder. Today he took the checkered flag and is now in the Winners Circle.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Albia and Whitey Gunter.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine Cochran Gunter, his daughter and son in law Jennifer and Adam Thomasson, and one grandson Lane Thomasson (Little Man), the pride and joy of his life, brothers Dewight (Paula), Junior (June), Frank (Angie), Lance (Karen). Other family by love, Gene and Angie Richmond, Brooke Banks, Charles, Micheala, Thomas Devine, Dean and Lesia Somers, and Ruth Ann Sitton and family. The Whitakers of Georgia. One Aunt Fannie Wiggins, lots of extended family and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his little dog, Roscoe.

Service was at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church at 11:00 am Tuesday. Visitation was at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church starting at 5:00 pm Monday.

The Reverend Kelly Dodson, Jim Frady, Ricky Honeycutt and Aaron Smith will officiate.

Pall Bearers will be Darrell Thompson, Troy Keener, Ricky Morgan, Randy Gates, Phillip Smith, Ronnie Bowers, James Woodard, Drew Bowers, Jr. Henson and Michael Bowers.

Eual Ray Parris, Bill Dingle and Randy Barker will be honorary Pall Bearers as well as the men and women of the NC Forest Service.

Jeff was a mechanic by trade and employed by the NC Forest Service. He loved his job and the men & women he had the pleasure of knowing and working with during his career.

The family would like to thank, Dr. Iona Bonta and staff of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Dr. Roy Gallinger & staff and Four Seasons Hospice. Many thanks to all the caregivers that have made this journey much easier, especially one we have adopted, Savannah Gass.

The family would like to also thank the Harley Cochran Family for their love and support to the family during Jeff’s illness.

We also would like to thank the people that have been faithful about visiting, calling and whatever they may have done, we are forever grateful, and we will never forget it. We love you all. Please continue to pray for us as we try to make the best of the days ahead without Jeff.
