Ronald Ron Frederic Haigler, 77, born October 12, 1942 passed away peacefully on October 09, 2019 at the Medwest Harris Hospital in Sylva, NC following a period of declining health due to diabetes and COPD.  

He was the son of the late Don Haigler and Cora (McLeymore) Haigler and a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians and a life long resident of  Cherokee, NC and Bryson City, NC. 

Ron spent most of his life working in hospitality-food service operations.

 Along with his parents Ronald was preceded in death by brothers, LeRoy, Robert, Edward, Eugene and William Haigler; two sisters, Evelyn Kay and Betty Elaine Haigler.

 Ronald was always pleasant and fun to be around and his candid and dry humor will be missed.  Rest in Peace Ron.

 Ronald is survived by brothers, Frank Haigler of Lincoln CA., Tom Haigler wife Rosemarie of Bryson City, NC, John Lowery Haigler wife Melba of Cherokee, NC, and sister, Mary Lou Salter of Richmond KY and Milton, FL. And, many nieces and nephews. Also, his special friend Patsy Staton and son Robert.

 The family received friends on Friday, October 11, 2019 in the Chapel of Long House Funeral Home from 11AM to 1PM.  

A formal funeral started at 1PM in the chapel of Long House with the Rev. James Bo Parris officiating.  An immediate burial followed the service in the Birdtown Cemetery of the Cherokee Community with friends of the family acting as pall bearers. 

Ronald’s family would like to thank all the care givers at Mountain View Manor Nursing Home and Harris-Swain Hospital for their loving attendance to Ronald’s needs. Thanks to Mr. Martin of Long House Funeral Home and his staff. Many blessings and thanks to Council Member Boyd Owle and the Tribal Construction grave diggers. Thanks for the service of Rev.
