Lady Devils drop two

The Swain County varsity girls basketball team suffered a 68-31 loss against Murphy and fell 66-39 against AC Reynolds. Highest scoring players for the game against Murphy were Savana Smith with 11 points and Mya Burrows-Kurr with 7 points.

“Against a team like Murphy, you show up and compete every possession on both ends of the floor. Our team did not show up to compete on either side of the ball. We will continue to work and try to improve on both ends of the floor, Coach Joshua Griffith said. “The first half of the game with AC Reynolds, we struggled scoring but competed hard on defense which gave us a fighting chance to a great team, but we could not sustain for all four quarters. We are still growing as a team and making adjusts that will pay off in the long run.”

The game against the Cherokee Braves that was originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 7 was rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 12, but results were not available prior to publishing.

The Devils Basketball next game is scheduled for Jan. 14 in Highlands against the Highlanders.
